Art School: Landscape class. This was painted in oils on location on a canvas I pulled out of the trash. We would pack up our paints, turpentine, rags, brushes. Travel to scenic locations to paint. We would spend several afternoons at the same location on different days. The weather was often hot, humid, sometimes overcast, the light changed constantly.

One day I was suddenly surrounded by a swarm of tiny gnats. The wind changed. The bugs will be forever embedded in this painting. My instructor told me that makes it authentic. This painting reminds me of being a student perhaps more than any other. Perhaps because the two people in front of me were also on my class.
