the face of wonder

Papier Mache, Acrylic Paint and Wood. 7 feet tall.

Out of the blue the I encountered a baby owl, up close, cradled in my neighbor's hands. The baby bird stared into my soul with two enormous EYES. I was inspired to try to capture the moment, the exquisite look of innocence from baby eyes. This is purity, complete openness, a blank slate. This is the look of watching fireworks. This is a first snowfall, a first taste of ice cream. This is before anything happens to make a person afraid of what they do not know.

Pale blue, pattern like a vibration, colors of infancy. Hands ready to touch. No fear, no pain.
